I Do, We Do
I Do, We Do is an experimental music video for Marlow’s track from the 2016 album In The Backroom.
Project
I wanted to work with video glitches as material rather than add them as a finished visual effect. Using Avidemux and terminal tools, I altered information inside the video files until the images began to break, shift, and recombine in unexpected ways.
I then selected and assembled those results in After Effects. The process moved back and forth between deliberately damaging the files and making precise editing decisions about the images that emerged.
What was created
The result was a complete music video in which manipulated footage, compression artefacts, colour shifts, and broken image structures move with Marlow’s track. The errors were not decoration added afterwards; they formed the visual material of the piece.
Looking back
Working this way meant giving up some control at the beginning. Breaking the files produced images I could not have designed frame by frame. The actual design work came afterwards, in choosing which accidents belonged in the video and which were simply noise.
