“Astraal” is my alias as a Visual Jockey, as VJ. When a friend invited me to attend one of their big, self organized parties in Dresden called “KURZUNDSCHMAL” I was excited about the whole character of this DIY subculture. Everyone was throwing in the skills they had to make the party as best as possible. I wanted to be part of this as well, so I decided to make use of my talent as a media artist. I decided to learn how to work with VJ programs and developed esthetics that would fit the music played at this parties. Soon I was part of the main crew behind “KURZUNDSCHMAL” and was involved in making crucial decisions. This way learned a lot about self organized working and responsibility for a project that involved lots of funds. This went from, discussing artists, getting in contact with them, negotiating a contract, talking to agencies, renting the equipment, booking hotel rooms, designing artwork, promoting parties, arranging security, coordinating teams and many more. As Astraal I was invited playing international music festivals such as “SonneMondSterne” and “Nachtiville”.
